Thank you for acknowledging Doug Jones for the hero he is. Doug , more than anyone else I know, has drilled down into the principle of finding strength in weakness. Against all cultural norms, Doug has demonstrated a courage to fully embrace meekness and humility while possessing an intellect that could easily showcase himself in the Christian community. He is a rare gem.
Well said. And thank you for the encouraging word.
Whoa! I stumbled upon your podcast totally by accident. Amazing, because I too wonder, on a regular basis, what Doug Jones is up to. I have all three of the kid books, I got “Angels…” as well. But the reason I have tried to track down any writing or speaking by him was because of three things, two were sermons, one on sleep, “Your Sleep Will Be Sweet” and the other was on “glory.” I can’t remember the name of that sermon, but it was amazing. I’ve developed a whole class on Psalm 29 using his ideas as a centerpiece:
Glory concerns the intersection of calling and strength.
To give glory, or to glorify is to make manifest that intersection.
The third way he impacted my life was to first introduce me to the idea of a Trinitarian life style or maybe better put, the everyday, practical implications of the doctrine of the Trinity and that was why I wanted to keep track of him. It seemed like he was just starting to explore this himself when he disappeared out of the PNW into obscurity.
I got to meet Doug once, briefly, in Enterprise, Oregon. I wanted to take him aside for about 4 hours and ask him questions, but alas, I was with a larger group and it was inappropriate for me to dominate the conversation. He was also rather shy and quiet. It was gonna take 4 hours and some IPA to learn some of what he was thinking.
Many thanks for this shout out to Doug. Let me know if you learn more. And I’ll be checking out your podcast. Peace & grace, Doug
That’s our guy. Every word of yours rings true. I’ll let you know if and what I hear. Hope you continue to enjoy the podcast.
