RC, I’m enjoying your YouTube channel, and want you to know you are loved and appreciated! Your teaching has always been helpful to me. Regarding the book you’re writing, I wonder if the title is what’s making you hesitant? It certainly had that effect on me when you talked about it. I don’t think His immanence detracts from His holiness. Rather, it flows from His holiness as all of His attributes do. There is no way God can be anything but holy…so the title “The Unholiness of God” is, to my ears…unless I’m missing something, an offense to God. I know that you are referencing the “separateness” of God and not His purity in your line of thinking. You’re making the point that He is near..and that’s true. But I don’t believe that His transcendence and majesty are somehow “countered” by His imminence. Imagine doing this with the rest of the attributes..When God Doesn’t Love” or “The Weakness of God” or “The Almost Omniscient God”…

The thing is..I know your teaching well enough to know that I’m probably missing something here. Maybe you can set me straight? This is just the reaction of one Layman who learned much from your father. Thanks for all you do! You are in my prayers..

No Bill, certainly not. Nothing in the book would for a moment seek to lessen the reality of His infinite holiness. The title is provocative to be sure. My frustration is if I use it many will misunderstand. If I don’t, the book will not likely reach a large audience. Thank you for the counsel, the comment and the encouragement.

RC, thank you for clarifying. I can see your dilemma. Is it better to use an untruth as a title, and in the contents fix the problem created by the title, or use a less provocative title with less impact. I know that you want to glorify God in this, so my prayers will be along those lines.

        Blessings,

RC, I’m a truck driver, and as I was rolling down I81 in Virginia (I’m sure you’re familiar with it), I was thinking about your dilemma. At the risk of being aggravatingly forward, I’m going to tell you what came to mind. You may have already thought of this, but here goes: What about the title “The Nearness of God”…it’s simple, very much like “The Holiness of God”….and you can tell it flows from that work. But then I thought, what if your title was “The Holiness of God” with Holiness crossed out, and “Nearness” written underneath? It would pack a punch, convey the message, and not be offensive. Just a thought..
        Blessings,
        Bill
